About Me

I am a displaced New Yorker in DC. This fact influences most of my writing and general outlook on life.

I recently married MJD after dating for four years, and we just bought our first home. We love our goldendoodle, Artie, and take way too many pictures of his little adventures.

Mostly, I write about Artie, my attempts at decorating and hosting dinner parties, and life in DC. It took me a long time to warm to this city, and now I’m constantly on the lookout for the good (i.e. impressive restaurants and stores) in DC.

I work in politics, and write for my job all day, so I do my best not to write about anything political here. This is my place to write about anything else!

I am a huge fan of Bon Jovi and not afraid to admit it. I also love singer-songwriters, like Emmylou Harris and Allison Krauss. My music taste is pretty much all over the place.

I love to eat and shop.

I would love to learn to cook and host parties with the ease of Martha Stewart.

I love birthdays, Christmas, and basically any holiday.

I often get through a day at work by promising myself wine and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream.

    Why did you leave NY?

For a job and my boyfriend! We were long distance for a few years and since I was leaving my job it made more sense for me to move. I actually didn’t expect it to be as hard as it was. It took close to a year for me to start adjusting to life in DC.

I came here under the exact same circumstances you did, more or less. I’ve been here just over two years and it’s still an adjustment. Some days I’m okay with being here and other days, rueful.

It’s easy to hate on NYC at times when you’re there, but once you leave you realize what a really vibrant, non-stop, concentrated, interesting place it is. It’s hard to go anywhere else and not feel like you’ve down shifted into suburbia.

Be that as it may, DC is not a terrible city and it’s easy to escape to NYC for a weekend.
