Perfect distraction

31 Aug

What’s your perfect distraction? When something happens in your personal life or at work, do you have something that helps to keep your mind off of it?

For me it’s usually reading. TV can work (especially if there’s wine involved) but my mind still tends to wander. If I’m reading a good book, one that is totally engrossing, I can forget for an hour or two what’s going on. I know Lusty Reader must know what I’m talking about. And my sister and cousin are avid readers as well!

Right now, I’m reading Harry Potter. Yesterday I finished the third, and today I started the fourth. I know it’s not a classic, this isn’t Fitzgerald or Hemingway, but you know what…it’s good! It’s a compelling story, the characters are developed, and the stories are suspenseful. I was totally shocked at the ending of the third book – I did not see that coming!

I”m completely enjoying the series. What about you?!

New friends in the neighborhood

28 Aug

Last night, Artie had the great fortune of meeting Luis, the artist behind One Photograph a Day. He got to meet Lupe, play on a discarded couch, and was allowed to jump on his new friends while these pictures were being taken. Aren’t they fabulous?! Thanks Luis and Lupe for the fun and photos!

New shelves…and Target frustration

27 Aug

OK, I mentioned renovation pictures the other day (oops, that was actually a week ago), but here you go. MJD did all the work, and I watched and tried to be helpful. The biggest success for sure are the shelves he replaced in the dining room. The previous owner had glass shelves that were kind of green tinted…? They didn’t really fit, so we were scared to use them, and as you all know that is a recipe for clutter and trash! Like a clutter drawer. Those glass shelves became home for extra nails, receipts, mail.

So, earlier this month, I went out with some friends and MJD said he was going to have new shelves cut at the hardware store. I expected some wood shelves that we could use, but when I got home that afternoon, he had cut shelves, attached a curved edge to the front of the shelves, and painted them yellow. WHAT?! I know! He was already almost done painting when I got home.

He is a good man.

New shelves!

New shelves!

They match the dining room!

We also hung these cheap target shelves in our bathroom – but one already fell. Sometimes I lose a little love for Target. This was one of those times. Cheap can occasionally just be cheap (ie. not a good deal when it breaks in 24 hours).

There were three...now there are two

There were three...now there are two

I’d be fine with two shelves, but now we have to fill the holes in the wall and paint over them…deep, frustrated sigh!

I like this giraffe

Yikes. Yesterday was such a busy day! It was a successful day too though, so worth the effort!

In the craziness this week, I did love this painting from Marisa at Creative Thursday. It’s perfect for a baby’s room, but I even kind of want it for my office. The giraffe just looks so happy and cheerful!

Dog Park Rumors

25 Aug

I just want to keep you all up to date. Now I’ve heard September 3rd at 4pm. I’ll take that too. It’s still next week!

Artie saying: Come on guys, let's get to the park!!

Artie saying: Come on guys, let's get to the park!!

Could it be true? Should our dogs rejoice?

24 Aug

This is the email I just received on the Kevin and Ted listserve:

Jack Evans’ office confirmed that the 2nd at 4pm is our ‘leash’ cutting ceremony.

Is it possible? Will the S Street dog park actually open on September 2nd?!

Will there soon be a better place to meet up with your puppy friends?

Artie and Mattie have suffered through too many wrestling matches on the concrete…held back by those annoying leashes!

Could be a nice looking couple with a park to meet up in!

Can't you feel the love?

Can't you feel the love?

There you go!

There you go!

Hope to see you there!

Is it almost Saturday?!

Magic Hat #9 in the fridge. On a Wedndesday night, when you think the next day is Friday, and realize it’s only Thursday, popping open a beer makes you at least feel closer to the weekend!

I got to be honest, I can’t think of a peeve, other than work. And I’ve already written that a ton of times.

I’ll be back later with pictures from our newest renovations instead!

Just for fun…Artie waiting for a treat.

S Street Dog Park

18 Aug

According to a list serve I’m on, the S Street Dog Park failed inspection last week. I haven’t seen a report on my usual go to sources, but I’ve been busy at work and may have missed it.

According to Kevin (and Ted), the Dog Park failed inspection, and there will be another delay until probably next month, or even longer. Circle Dogs – DC needs to be reestablished and get 501(C)(3) status to start raising money.

I hope this gets reported more widely so the dog owners in the neighborhood can help out. I’m surprised DC is not working harder to get it open since they took the time and money to build it.

Hawaii here we come

Finally asking for days off for already postponed Honeymoon! The stress of asking, and negotiating has been weighing on me even more than I realized. Now that I asked, I feel more relaxed and excited. Now to planning!

Why is stationary so fun?

I love announcements and invitations. I loved making my wedding invitations, and making bridal shower invites for friends. I love getting invitations (my mom and sister picked the sweetest invitation for our enangement party). And now I love getting baby annoucements.

So, I thought it would be nice to compile a few cute ideas.

I think my favorite is this one posted by Oh So Beautiful Paper:

And I don’t know why this one stands out to me so much, but the little airplane is so cute. Also on Etsy.

Lastly, I love this Howdy announcement, designed by the woman who made our wedding invitations! But I can’t seem to grab a picture — so go check it out! You have to click baby, look at collection, and it’s the third one!
