It’s almost 2009!

31 Dec

I can’t believe we are counting down the hours to 2009! I have been quite caught up with all the festivities, the shopping, visiting friends and family, and eating insane amounts of food and feel quite terrible for my lack of posting. I am blaming it all on the abnormal amounts of sugar coursing through my body.

But I couldn’t let 2008 end without taking a quick look back at the year. I mean, I got married! That’s huge. And bought a condo! Who would ever have thought that I, the great spender, could ever participate in saving money and buying a condo! And our little puppy Artie turned one! All in all, I would say that 2008 was a pretty amazing year!

So, I will now go back to eating my way through the last days of vacation, but I wanted to leave you with some entertainment. For those of my friends who are new to blogs, check out one of my favorites, dooce.

Hope you all have a fabulous New Years celebration! See you in 2009!

Snowy Dog Fun

26 Dec

This is too funny! I wish Artie had a snowy backyard to go crazy in!!

I don’t know how my dad found this, but I had to share this dog in the snow!

Artie’s Thoughts

Mom is mean. She did not cut my hair before Christmas. I will barely be able to see my presents under the tree!

So rude!

So rude!

Ohhh I need some of that popcorn!

Christmas in DC

23 Dec

Here’s a look at Christmas in our small household! It’s challenging to get the right amount of cheer without overdoing it for just the two of us and Artie!

Early Gifts…of Cheese!

22 Dec

I married a wonderful man! A man who agreed (grudgingly) to decorate our apartment for Christmas (pictures to come!), appeased my desire for surprises and presents by promising to buy me a christmas gift, scared me by hinting my present would be edible (basket of pears? yikes), and then came through with the most fabulous gift: A basket of cheese!!!!!!!!

Not just any cheese…Cowgirl Creamery Cheese!

It comes with a little cheese knife!

And look at the basket logo!

Yum!

One last look before I eat it!

We are off to NYC tomorrow for the holidays – this cheese is coming for the ride! Happy Holidays!

New Arrival

22 Dec

The table has arrived!!!

MJD’s parents made it out of 8 inches of Buffalo snow, all the way to DC, dragging a U-Haul trailer with our new table!  Thank you!!!!

This is the same table that MJD’s dad ate breakfast on as a little boy! Isn’t that just wonderful!

We were so inspired that we even hung up the new mirror!

Lights at Christmas

22 Dec

I am still loving the shot of the baking cakes that I’ve been using as a header during the holiday season, and Stephen’s photo is coming back in the new year! But I am in full Christmas spirit now, and am drawn to these lights, so I have to switch things up for a few days!

The multi-color lights remind me of Christmas as a little girl…before my sister and I demanded we use the white bulbs that we thought were classier! Now I’m craving some multi-color lights for my tree next year!

An Empire in DC

19 Dec

Oh the joy if Oprah buys a house in DC! I agree with the DCist that it seems unlikely she’d move her “Empire” here, but just an occasional chance sighting would be amazing! Oprah…make DC more celebrity-fabulous. Please!

From my good old hometown paper the NY Post:

OPRAH Winfrey wants to be as close to Barack Obama as possible. Insiders say Winfrey has started a preliminary search for a home in Washington, DC. A nine-bedroom Georgetown mansion she’s said to have asked about is listed at $50 million, but another source said, “She has never personally been to see it.” We’re sure Winfrey will try to swing by during Inauguration week. Her rep didn’t return calls.

Solutions for a Rainy Day

19 Dec

OK, so it might be a gross day in DC, but at least it’s a Brasserie Beck day. I am going with friends to enjoy the beer flights – a fun alternative to the wine flight or wine tasting that is more common.

I don’t know about you, but lately I feel as if everyone around me has become more and more interested in beer.  And yesterday I stumbled across this blog, LegendsOfBeer.com, that I had to share!

“Beer gets a bad rap. It’s blamed for so much of society’s ills, when it should be celebrated as one of the finest beverages created.”

Check out the post on the 12 most common beer myths! My favorite is number six- a teaching I have heard many times from my dad, of course!

Myth #6: Beer should be served ice-cold for best flavor

This is an unfortunate myth perpetuated by the major commercial breweries – especially for their lite beers. The fact is, flavor typically diminishes when beer is served ice-cold. It may make for a thirst-quenching, refreshing beverage, but often bears little resemblance to traditional beer. Several beers are, in fact, best served much closer to room temperature or slightly cool and are considered undrinkable when icy cold – such as Guinness and many of the traditional English ales.

Loving this picture on flickr, especially since it’s called, “Beer O’Clock”!
